Horizon: In 1967, scientists discovered that explosions of extraordinary violence were ripping through space on a daily basis, each with enough destructive power to obliterate the entire solar system. This documentary examines further investigations which have revealed the source of these phenomena to be 'hyper-novas', the collapsing of stars 20 times larger than the sun. These could well hold the answer to how the earliest stars were formed at the dawn of time.
