The Rockford Files: A former Countess, Deborah Ryder is being blackmailed by Carl Brego with information about her past. She hires Jim to get evidence, first by video camera at a meeting, which is unsuccessful and second by Jim confronting Brego. Brego starts a fight with Jim but is shot in the back and killed by a mystery marksman. Lieutenant Alex Diehl wants to charge Jim with the crime, however eyewitnesses to the fight can’t confirm Jim as the killer. Jim goes home to find his tape has been erased so goes straight to Deborah, who knows nothing about the death or the tape. Jim goes to Brego’s home to find the number for Brego’s girlfriend Lea Richards, who was present at the shooting, when Jim contacts Dennis Becker, Lea Richards is already giving a statement to Lieutenant Diehl. Realising a warrant has been issued from his arrest, Jim races from the trailer but is kidnapped and taken to Sorrell who wants to know ho hired Jim to assassinate Carl Brego. Jim replies he believes Brego was killed by organised crime, but as it turns out, the Sorrell is an executive organised crime. The police bust in just on time, but Jim now knows the identity of the real killer and so has to make his escape to prove it….
